Professor Jakov Fliyer (also spelled Jakov Flier, Jakov Fliere), was instrumental in Aleksei Takenouchi's musical development. He visited their home in Japan several times where he recounted many stories of his own musical development. At age 15, he wanted to learn Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto, but Konstantin Igumnov forbade it, saying that it was too difficult for his age. So, during the summer vacation, Jacov Fliyer learnt the concerto and played for his professor immaculately. Konstantin Igumnov wept. Age is not a barrier to performance. Aleksei Takenouchi has learnt this from Jakov Fliyer. When Jacov Fliyer came to Aleksei's home in Japan, he played the whole concerto. Unforgettable memory!
